Chennai Traffic Advisory For Narendra Modi-Xi Jinping Meet: List of Diversions And Routes to Avoid on October 11-12

Tamil Nadu, October 11: The second informal meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will begin in Mamallapuram on Friday. A number of traffic diversions have been announced by the state police on account of the meet which will take place. In a press release, the Tamil Nadu police have directed schools, colleges and commercial establishments to plan schedules in accordance with the summit dates, that is, October 11-12. According to traffic advisory, there is a possibility of congestion on GST road – from airport to Kathipara, Anna Salai (from Kathipara to Little Mount), Sardar Vallabhai Patel Road, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, and East Coast Road.
Reportedly, Xi will land at the Chennai International Airport at about 4 pm on Friday. From there he will depart to Mahabalipuram by his Hongqi luxury car to meet PM Modi. Mahabalipuram has been chosen for the summit as the historical city has ancient links with China during the Pallava dynasty.
According to traffic advisory, there is a possibility of congestion on GST road – from airport to Kathipara, Anna Salai (from Kathipara to Little Mount), Sardar Vallabhai Patel Road, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, and East Coast Road.
The police further added that heavy commercial vehicles, light commercial vehicles and tankers will not be allowed on the roads from 6 am to 11 pm on the two days when the Summit will take place. Vehicles moving toward the city will be diverted at Perungalathur via the Maduravoyal Bypass between 12.30 and 2.00 pm on Friday.
All vehicles on OMR heading to the city will be diverted into Perumbakkam at the Sholinganallur junction from 2 pm to 9 pm on October 11. Vehicles on ECR will not be allowed to proceed to Muttukaadu from Akkarai Junction from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm on October 12.
Ahead of the meeting, the IT employees whose offices are on that part of the city have been asked to come in early and leave before the traffic diversions start. According to a News Minute report, a few IT companies have requested their employees to work from home on Friday as well.
