Mumbai, September 6: In a shocking incident in Tamil Nadu, a Class XII student allegedly assaulted a teacher when he was woken up for sleeping in a classroom in Chennai. Police officials said that the student, who was under the influence of drugs, allegedly punched the teacher in the face when the educator woke him up for sleeping in the classroom. The alleged incident occurred at a higher secondary school in Chennai's Wimco Nagar.

After being punched in the face, the injured teacher was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to a report in the Times of India, the Class XII student is a resident of Bharathi Nagar in Thiruvottiyur. Teachers said that the student's father requested the authorities to allow his son to write the term II examination. Following this, the school principal allowed the student to attend the commerce examination, which was held on Monday. On the same day, when the students were writing the examination, a teacher named M Sekar, who was supervising the exam, saw the student sleeping in the classroom.

The teacher tried to wake up the student, this is when Sekar noticed an empty sachet of a narcotic drug. When the student woke up, the teacher questioned him about the wrapper, to which the student picked up a fight. Following the attack, Sekar fell down on the floor and reportedly suffered injuries to his nose and near his left eye. While the teacher received treatment, officials detained the student for further questioning. An investigation is underway.
