Chennai, August 23: In Chennai's Triplicane, 35-year-old Nagammal killed her 28-year-old husband Manivannan, by strangling him to death with her mangalsutra on August 20. When the Triplicane Police confronted her, Nagammal confessed to her crime stating that she was irked by the repeated harassment and abuse by her husband. Nagammal was a contractual conservancy worker with Greater Chennai Corporation and had been married twice before marrying Manivannan.
As per Nagammal, her husband Manivannan allegedly came home drunk that night and abused her. They got into a fight and in that moment, she strangled him with her mangalsutra. After Manivannan fell unconscious following the strangling, she got worried and informed her sister, Abirami, seeking help. Later, Abirami, along with her husband Nandakumar, reached Nagammal's house and helped her to take Manivannan to the government hospital at Omandurar. However, on reaching the hospital, the doctors declared Manivannan "dead on arrival" and they ended notifying the Triplicane police after they noticed the strangulation marks around his neck. The police, at the doctors' notification, detained not just Nagammal, but also her sister Abirami, and Nandakumar as fellow accomplices in the alleged murder of Manivannan. After Nagammal confessed to the police, the entire incident came to light and she was taken under arrest for Manivannan's murder.
