Chennai, October 24: A 27-year-old female karate coach from Thoothukudi was arrested for kidnapping a 16-year-old Class 12 student from Chennai’s Perambur with the intent to marry her after undergoing a sex change operation. The incident occurred in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Chennai.
On October 17, Kiruthika (name changed) realised her daughter, Vimala (name changed), had not attended school despite leaving home in the morning, reported TOI. Worried, she rushed to the school in Sembium, where the management discovered Vimala was missing. Investigations led to the discovery that Vimala, who trained at a local karate centre run by Deepa (name changed), was absent, and Deepa was also untraceable. Kiruthika filed a missing person report with the Thiru Vi Ka Nagar police. A team, led by Sub-Inspector Ilayarajah, tracked Vimala’s phone to Arumuganeri in Tuticorin district. The police rescued both Vimala and Deepa and returned them to Chennai on Monday. During questioning, Deepa revealed her intention to undergo a gender transition surgery to marry the schoolgirl. The police counseled Vimala and allowed her to return home with her parents. The case was transferred to the Sembium all-women police for further investigation.
Inspector Shenbaga Devi is now handling the case, probing into Deepa’s motives and actions.
