Chennai, October 20: Two men were arrested on Thursday, October 19, in connection with the murder of a transgender named Dayallammal (50) from Mappedu near Tambaram. The victim’s body was recovered from a canal near Mambakkam. A case has been registered against the accused duo under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the New Indian Express report, the accused, Rajaji (30) and Chandran (28) from Sithalapakkam were under the influence of ganja when they hit Dayallammal’s scooter with their vehicle. Dayallammal suffered minor injuries and picked up an argument with the accused, who refused to let her go. When Dayallammal threatened to lodge a police complaint, the argument escalated into a scuffle, and the accused hacked Dayallammal with knives before dumping her body into a canal near Selaiyur. How the Matter Came to Light?

Reportedly, a relative of Dayallammal named Sanjana had asked her to come along for a temple visit on Saturday. Dayallammal could not go as she had other plans. After getting a complaint, the police started a search operation and found Dayallammal’s body in a canal near Mambakkam on Monday. The police traced the missing mobile phones to a mobile shop in Burma Bazaar. The shop owner informed police that two men had sold both phones for Rs 10,000. The police identified the men after sifting through CCTV footage at the store.
