Chennai, June 20: After a waiting of 196 days and hot and dry weather, Chennai finally witnesses the first showers of 2019 on Thursday afternoon as several parts of the city received rains. The latest weather condition comes as a relief as the parched state is already battling severe drought condition. The rains lashed out around 3 pm in several parts of the city, including OMR Tiruvanmiyur, Velachery, Nanganallur, Porur and Meenambakkam Madipakkam. Several residents stared posting messages, photos in social media and #ChennaiRains began to trend on Twitter. Water Crisis Deepens in Tamil Nadu, Soaring Temp Adds to Woes.

"After long long ago oh long ago Finally rain got rain. Expecting continue for long time., Cool," a user said. "Brief rains in Chennai.. Almost whole city is happy to see the rain after many month.. Time to result the existing water bodies and get ready for next good spell of rains soon," Another said.
The last few months for Tamil Nadu's Chennai have been quite discomforting due to bone-dry climate and prolonged heat conditions. The insufficient rains in last year's monsoon paved way for one of the biggest water crisis the state has ever witnessed.
