Mumbai, October 8: In a surprising turn of events, a man in Chennai received a whopping Rs 973 crore in his bank account. According to the reports, the man was identified as Muhammad Idris. He hails from Tirunelveli and has been staying in Teynampet for the last 10 years and working in a pharmacy here. The man then reported the incident to the bank, which then froze his account.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 6, when Muhammad transferred Rs 2,000 to his friend from his Kotak Mahindra bank account. He then decided to check his account balance. Much to his shock, he saw that a staggering Rs 973 crore had been credited to his bank account. Muhammad immediately contacted the bank and enquired about the same. This is the third such incident in the past 15 days in Tamil Nadu when banks made a goof-up and deposited large sums of money into customer's accounts.  Yesterday, a man from Thanjavur, Ganesan (29) of Veera Udayanpatti, received Rs 756 crore in his Kotak Mahindra Bank account. Similarly, a cab driver in Chennai, Rajkumar, had Rs 9000 crore credited to his account accidentally by Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank for a short while. On September 9, Rajkumar received a message from his bank - Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, saying that Rs 9000 crore was deposited in his account. While he initially assumed it to be a prank, a closer look at the message confirmed that it was from the bank and Rajkumar had transferred Rs 21,000 to a friend. A few minutes later, the balance amount was debited by the bank.
