Chennai, August 30: Heavy rains lashed parts of Tamil Nadu including the state capital of Chennai on Friday evening. Social media users of the city took to Twitter to share images and videos of the incessent downpour which left people returning from work drenched. The local weather department had already issued a forecast, predicting moderate showers in the city today. The hot temperatures over the past couple of days had contributed to the rain mechanism. The rains were triggered by the formation of low pressure over Bay of Bengal, with "perfect convergence happening right at Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai belt", a Meteorological Department official said. The maximum and minimum temperatures across the coastal belt is expected to hover around 36 degree celsius and 27 degree celsius, respectively.
