Chennai, April 25: A 26-year-old IT professional from Puducherry, died after he was given anaesthesia for his scheduled weight loss surgery in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday night, April 23. According to TOI, the deceased was admitted to a private hospital in the Chennai suburb of Pammal for metabolic and bariatric (weight loss) surgery on Monday. However, complications arose when he was administered anaesthesia for the operation. The techie named S Hemachandran reportedly used to work from home.

After viewing the doctor's YouTube videos in April of last year, Selvanathan and his son met with Dr Perungo at the Rela Hospital regarding the weight loss surgery. Selvanathan claimed that before having the weight loss surgery, the doctor recommended his diabetic son to go through several tests. However, when the doctor's PA contacted him, Selvanathan was informed that the procedure would just cost Rs 4 lakh at BP Jain Hospital, while it Rs 8 lakh at the Rela Hospital. Selvanathan claimed that all necessary precautions mentioned by the doctor and the staff were taken by the family after his son was admitted for the surgery. He urged the police to take strict action against the hospital and the medical professionals involved.
