Chennai: Autistic Boy Drowns in Kolathur Private Pool During Swimming Class; Trainer and Pool Owner Arrested
A 10-year-old autistic boy in Chennai drowned in a Kolathur private pool during a swimming class after swimming for an hour. The trainer and pool owner have been arrested.
Chennai, August 6: A 10-year-old autistic boy in Chennai tragically drowned in a private pool in Kolathur during a swimming class on Sunday, August 4. After reportedly swimming for an hour, he collapsed due to exhaustion. The trainer rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. The boy's parents filed a complaint, which led to the arrest of the trainer and the pool owner. Both individuals have been charged under Section 105.
The deceased, R. Krithik Sabarishwar, had autism spectrum disorder, and he used to attend a special school. According to a report by Times Of India, Krithik was swimming in a private pool that was 3.5 feet deep in the morning when the tragic incident took place. The reports further added that while his father waited outside in the car, his mother accompanied Krithik during the class. In her complaint, she reported that Krithik was made to swim continuously for over an hour. When she informed the trainer that Krithik was becoming tired, the trainer did not respond appropriately.
As a result of exhaustion, Krithik collapsed and drowned. The trainer eventually pulled him from the water and rushed him to Periyar Nagar Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. A police officer stated, "We have recommended to the Greater Chennai Corporation that the swimming pool be sealed and are now awaiting their response." However, a corporation official mentioned they have yet to receive the police's letter and will take action only after it is received.
