Charni Road Station FOB to Remain Shut for Two Months From September 28

The repair work is believed to cause massive inconvenience to lakhs of people who now have to walk down a north side staircase at Platform number 4.

Mumbai, September 27: Commuters using the Charni Road Station Foot Over Bridge (FOB) in Mumbai are likely to face months of inconvenience now as the bridge will be shut for nearly two months starting tomorrow, i.e. September 28. The repair work is believed to cause massive inconvenience to lakhs of people who now have to walk down a north side staircase at Platform number 4. According to details by Western Railways, the bridge will be shut from September 28 to November 26, 2018 for massive repair work. With the foot-overbridge (FOB) when non-operational, commuters will cross the road below which will lead to long traffic snarls.

The Western Railways said it has been decided to shut the FOB to carry out major repairing and strengthening of Charni Road station middle Foot Over Bridge. The south side staircase on PF No. 4 will remain closed from 28th September, 2018 to 26th November, 2018 for 60 days. It must be noted that the Charni Road railway station has a majority of commuters who reside in areas like Girgaum, Kelwadi, Gol Deul among others. Patripul Bridge in Kalyan Shut As Dismantling Begins.

In a similar repair work, a dilapidated ROB at Lower Parel was closed for commuters in July. Western Railway informed that the 97-year-old Delisle ROB (Road Over Bridge) may remain closed for operation for the next two years. Commuters, who have offices at Lower Parel, Worli, Currey Road, Elphinstone Road and Mahalaxmi were forced to walk down a narrow lane to reach the road outside the railway station.

According to a report by PTI, a detailed inspection of 145 FOBs (Foot Over Bridges) and 29 ROBs under the jurisdiction of the BMC, MMRDA and the PWD that fall under WR corridor is underway. The other five bridges in Mumbai that need reconstruction or repair are Ferere ROB at Grant Road, Belasis ROB at Mumbai Central, Tilak ROB at Dadar, Carol ROB at Prabhadevi and one at Mahalaxmi.
