New Delhi, August 4: The winners of a quiz on space technology will get a chance to watch the expected soft landing of Chandrayaan 2 mission spacecraft in September live with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has announced. PM Narendra Modi announced the quiz in his last Mann Ki Baat address in July. On 22 July, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark III, nicknamed Baahubali, put the Chandrayaan 2 mission spacecraft into the Earth’s orbit. PM Modi watched the historic feat by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) live. Chandrayaan 2 Explained! When Will ISRO's GSLV-Mk III Reach Moon And What Will Happen After That?
People can participate in the quiz on mygov.in website. They will have to answer 20 questions in 300 seconds. The quiz will be launched on August 10, and would be open for 10 days. The winners will be invited to watch live with PM Modi the Chandrayaan 2 moon mission spacecraft make a soft landing on the lunar soil in September, NDTV reported. PM Modi was present in the mission operations centre in Bengaluru when Mangalyaan was steered into the orbit of Mars in 2014.
Chandrayaan 2 satellite is in good shape and four orbit raising operations have been successfully completed. On August 14, Chandrayaan 2 will be nudged towards the moon and a soft landing is scheduled for the night of September 6 or 7. After the soft landing on the moon, which has been described as “15 minutes of terror” by ISRO chairman K Sivan, the wheeled rover will move on the lunar surface and will perform on-site chemical analysis. The rover will carry out experiments on Lunar surface for a period of 1 Lunar day, which is equal to 14 Earth days.
After the successful completion of the project, India will become the fifth country in the world after the United States, China, Russia, and Israel to successfully perform a "soft landing" of an unmanned mission on the moon.
