Nagpur, May 30: Temperature continues to sizzle in Maharashtra's Chandrapur, where 48 degree celsius was recorded yesterday making it probably the "hottest city" in the world on Wednesday. Mercury escalated in neighbouring Brahmpuri and Amravati as well, which recorded temperatures of 47.5 and 46.4 degrees celsius, respectively.
A day earlier, Chandrapur recorded 47.9 degree celsius, whereas, neighbouring Nagpur witnessed 47.5 -- the highest the city has recorded since 2013. Speculations are rife that the temperature could be further breached in the ongoing summer season. Nagpur Sizzles at 47.5 as Intense Heatwave Hits Maharashtra's Vidarbha
Update by ANI:
The Regional Meteorological Department has warned of extreme heatwave conditions in the Vidarbha region for next couple of days. The heatwave will continue till June 1, subsequent to which the temperature will start receding, the weather department officials said.
A major respite from the heatwave conditions would come with the onset of Monsoon in Maharashtra. Though Vidarbha, along with Marathwada, received rainfall later as compared to western Maharashtra, the beginning of rainfall in neighbouring parts will have a cooling effect on the region's temperature.
According to the IMD, rainfall is expected to hit Kerala coast on June 6. The Konkan region in Maharashtra is likely to receive the first showers between June 15-17.
