Chandigarh, December 19: Two leaders of a students' union were shot dead by unknown assailants at their rented apartment in Chandigarh's Sector 15 on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Vineet and Ajay, both aged 20. The victims had shifted to the new apartment two days back only, The Indian Express reported. Vineet, a BA second-year student at Post Graduate Government College, and Ajay, an MLA student from GGDSD College, belonged to Jind in Haryana and were associated with Hindustan Student Association (HSA). Cops said that the incident took place around 10 pm on December 18 when four unidentified assailants entered the building and open fired on them, the report said. At least eight bullets were fired. Ajay suffered four bullet injury and Vineet suffered two fatal bullet wounds. The duo were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a probe has been initiated. Meanwhile, cops along with dog squad have picked blood samples and evidence from the incident site.
