Chandigarh Medical Negligence Shocker: 24-Week-Old Alive Infant Sent for Post-Mortem at PGI Hospital, Probe Initiated
A 24-weeks-old infant's post-mortem in Chandigarh's PGI has sparked a row in Punjab. Reports state that doctors the infant was alive when he was sent for post-mortem by doctors, however, the ward boy activeness saved the life of the innocent child. A probe has been initiated.
Chandigarh, January 3: Amid the controversy over infant deaths in Kota’s JK Lon Hospital gaining political momentum, a report of 24-weeks-old infant's post-mortem in Chandigarh's PGI has sparked a row in Punjab. Report states that the infant was alive when he was sent for post-mortem by doctors, however, the ward boy's activeness saved the life of the innocent child.
According to the report, published by Amar Ujala, the case of medical negligence has come to light in country's reputed PGI hospital where an infant has been sent for post-mortem, when he was alive. After the infant reached the post-mortem house, the worker saw that the infant was breathing and then he informed the Gynecology department of the hospital. Initially, the department was not ready to accept its fault, but later admitted the child again for treatment. The infant survived for more 12-hours long. Instead of accepting their fault, the daily states that doctors were adamant and opined that the child was underweight and has not grown fully. Since the case pertains to medical negligence, PGI has initiated a probe in this matter.
The case come into light at a time when there is so much controversy going around over the death of infants at Kota’s JK Lon Hospital. It is to be known that 104 infants have died in last 33 days, following which Ashok Gehlot had ordered a probe and said that they are monitoring the condition very carefully.
