Central Railway Official Who Helped in Mahalaxmi Express Rescue Operation in Badlapur Dies After Being Hit by Local Train While Inspecting Tracks After Floods
A senior railway official inspecting the railway tracks in Kalyan was hit by a local train. He died in the incident. The official had recently coordinated in the rescue operation of the stranded Mahalaxmi Express train in Badlapur for several hours. Rai along with other Railway staff were inspecting the tracks after the recent floods when a Kalyan-CSTM train hit him.
Mumbai, August 1: In a tragic incident, a senior railway official inspecting the railway tracks in Kalyan was hit by a local train. The official identified at Vimal Rai died in the incident. According to a Times of India report, Rai had recently coordinated the rescue operation when 1,050 passengers in Mahalaxmi Express were stranded following the floods. It was around 4:40 PM when Rai along with other Railway staff were inspecting the tracks after the recent floods when a Kalyan-CSTM train hit him. He suffered head injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was declared brought dead on arrival. Reportedly, this was the same spot where 4 people working on the tracks were run over by a train in 2013.
On July 27, two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters and six boats of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had to rescue around 1,500 passengers stranded in the Mahalaxmi Express train after a torrential downpour in Mumbai and surroundings.
The passengers stranded in the train were left with no drinking water or food for nearly 15 hours and no escape route as the train was practically cut off with five-six feet water on all sides.
