Central Railway Earns Record Fine of Rs 100.29 Crore From Passengers for Ticketless Travel in First 6 Months of 2019

Mumbai, September 26: The Mumbai Division of the Central Railway has registered a record number of ticketless travel cases from April to September 2019. According to a tweet by Central Railway, the railway has collected Rs 100. 29 crore in fine from passengers by registering a number of cases between April 1 to September 24 this year. "CR nets Rs 100.29 crore during the first 6 months (1st April to 24th September) of the financial year 2019-20", the tweet read.
The tweet further added saying that the Central Railway collected the fine as part of its intensive campaign to stop the menace of ticketless travel in the city. According to reports, Central Railway spokesperson Shivaji Sutar informed that the fine this year is an increase of 14 percent as compared to last year. In the corresponding period, last year, the Central Railway had collected Rs 87.98 crore by registering over 1.5 lakh cases. This is believed to be the best-ever performance of the division for any month. The last highest collection was Rs 87.98 crore last year.
In August, Central Railway had requested rail users not to accept any unreserved tickets issued from Railway counters, Jansadharan Ticket Booking Seva (JTBS) / Station Ticketing Booking Agent (STBA) / Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra (YTSK) having correction / alternations made manually. In its press release, the Central Railways also requested passengers to verify journey details of tickets before leaving counter for any discrepancy to avoid unnecessary fines.
