Celebratory Firing Claims Another Life! 14-Year-Old Boy Killed During Pre-Wedding Function in Haryana's Yamunanagar

Yamunanagar, November 25: The celebratory firing claimed a life of a 14-year-old boy. The incident took place during a pre-wedding function in Nachron village of Yamunanagar district on Friday night. The victim has been identified as Arjun. His father is a daily wager. Punjab police have arrested Sazid Khan, a resident of the village for opening the fire. Khan is also an aide of local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sham Singh Rana. Another person arrested by the police has been identified as Rajesh Kumar. The initial investigation revealed that the accused was under the influence of alcohol when he opened the fire. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, after firing two rounds in the air, there was some snag in the pistol. As Khan started inspecting the pistol it suddenly fired, and a bullet hit Arjun, who was standing nearby. The BJP MLA’s aide has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. After the incident, he fled from the spot, but was later arrested.

The boy was taken to a government hospital in Radaur, but he was declared brought dead. Hospital authorities handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. There is a ban on the carrying of arms at wedding functions in Haryana after the 2016 incident in Bathinda in which an orchestra dancer was killed in a celebratory firing during a marriage.

Earlier this month, A minor boy was shot dead in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh around midnight during a religious congregation. The 14-year-old was part of the crowd that had gathered to hear the 'Bhagwad Katha'. He died on the spot after being hit by a bullet that was apparently shot to 'kill' Kans in the act being enacted on the stage.
