CDS Appointment Discussed in Indian Army Commander's Conference, 2 Months After PM Modi Announced Creation of 'Chief of Defence Staff' Post
The top Indian Army officials on Wednesday discussed the creation of the new post of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) during the ongoing Army Commander’s Conference. During the conference, the Army commanders also discussed proposals about giving enhanced grants for personnel who are invalidated out of service due to injuries and disabilities before 10 years of service.
New Delhi, October 16: The top Indian Army officials on Wednesday discussed the creation of the new post of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) during the ongoing Army Commander’s Conference. According to reports, Army commanders felt the need for creating structures that can help in the effective integration of the new office with services. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the decision to appoint the CDS during his address on the Independence Day. He had said that the post of CDS would integrate the three forces providing bringing efficiency while carrying out military operations. During the conference, the Army commanders also discussed proposals about giving enhanced grants for personnel who are invalidated out of service due to injuries and disabilities before 10 years of service. Army commander's conference was also briefed about the induction of American precision-guided Excalibur artillery ammunition and Made in India Dhanush Missile. The newly inducted American ammunition is acquired under fast track procedures by the Indian Army, and it hit targets at extended ranges.
Yesterday, on the first day of the conference, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat appreciated the officers and troops for carrying out their operational responsibility which has resulted in foiling many Border Action Team (BAT) actions along the Line of Control (LoC). He also praised the Indian forces for thwarting terrorists’ actions in the hinterland. The latest edition of Army Commanders' Conference taking place in New Delhi from October 14 to 19.
