Meanwhile, West Bengal Director General of Police has arrived at the residence of the Kolkata Police Commissioner. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also present there. Bidhannagar police is also present outside the CBI's regional office at CGO Complex in Kolkata. Earlier in the day, Banerjee backed the Kolkata police commissioner, who has been summoned by the CBI. The state CM accused the BJP of playing political vendetta.
In November last year, Banerjee decided to withdraw the ‘General Consent’ or a free pass to the country's top investigation firm. This move was triggered by the perception that the CBI was acting as the behest of the BJP at the centre. The decision was taken on the same day when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu declared that the CBI could not conduct investigations in the state without permission. According to CBI's rule, it can conduct the raid and investigations in Delhi but can enter other jurisdiction with "general consent" of their government.
