CBI Raids Conducted at Indira Jaising, Anand Grover’s Houses in Delhi Over Foreign Funding Case, Senior Lawyer Says Targeted for Human Rights Work

The CBI on Thursday carried out searches at the residence of senior Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaising and her husband Anand Grover in Delhi. The raids by the CBI are being conducted allegedly over the violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) norms.

New Delhi, July 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday carried out searches at the residence of senior Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaising and her husband Anand Grover in Delhi. The raids by the CBI are being conducted allegedly over the violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) norms. According to a tweet by ANI, Jaising said the duo are targeted for the human rights work they did over the years. "Mr Grover and I are being targeted for the human rights work that we have done over the years", Jaising said. CBI Raids 110 Places in 19 States and Union Territories in Corruption, Criminal Misconduct and Arms Smuggling Cases.

The CBI raids come almost a month after it registered a case against the Mumbai-based NGO 'Lawyers Collective' and its President Anand Grover for alleged violation of Foreign Contribution (Regulations) Act (FCRA), criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust on June 13, after receiving a Home Ministry report over the issue.

According to a report by IANS, the CBI said unknown officer-bearers and functionaries of the NGO, private persons and public servants have also been made accused in the FIR. Meanwhile, the Home Ministry report said that the NGO was registered for carrying out social activities and it received Rs 32.39 crore from 2006-07 to 2014-15. However, the violation of the FCRA was noticed in 2010, the complaint added.
