Patna, December 24: Former Union Minister Captain Jai Narain Prasad Nishad on Monday died at the age of 88 years. The Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had represented Bihar's Muzaffarpur Constituency in Lok Sabha. Prasad was being treated at Max Hospital in Delhi. Due to his severe illness, he decided to not contest the 2014 general elections. Before joining BJP, he was also a part of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Janata Dal-United (JD-U). Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his death and tweeted, "Saddened by the demise of Captain Jai Narain Prasad Nishad Ji. He served our nation with great diligence. Captain Nishad’s efforts for the progress of Bihar were noteworthy. His work towards empowering the poor will always be remembered. Condolences to his family and supporters."

Born on 18 November 1930, Nishad served as Union Minister of Bihar from 1996 to 1998. The veteran had changed five political parties fifteen times but represented from the same Muzaffarpur seat five times. Before 2014 elections, Former Union Minister changed his side from JDU to BJP and got the ticket for his son Ajay Nishad from the same Constituency.
