Kanpur, November 4: In a tragic incident in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a 4-year-old boy lost his life after a toffee became choked in his throat. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, November 3, in the Barra Jarauli Phase-1 area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Barra Police Station. The child was reportedly eating Frootola candy, a sticky, eye-shaped toffee, which he had purchased from a nearby shop.

According to a report by Free Press Journal, The boy's mother, identified as Sonalika, tried to help by giving him water, but this caused the candy to slip further down his throat, worsening his breathing difficulties. The family rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to remove the lodged candy. According to the family, their search for medical assistance was hindered as many doctors were unavailable, reportedly on leave for Diwali. The family rushed the boy to three to four different hospitals, but none could provide the necessary treatment, and the child tragically succumbed after struggling for nearly three hours. Grieving and frustrated, the family is now demanding action against the manufacturer of the candy. Meanwhile, the shopkeeper who sold the candy has reportedly closed the shop and fled. Upon arriving at the scene, the police took the child’s lifeless body into their custody as part of their investigation into the tragic incident. The grieving family, overwhelmed with grief and anger, refused to allow the body to be sent for a post-mortem examination, insisting that action must be taken in connection with their son's death before they would agree to any further procedures.

In response to the family's insistence, the police have officially registered a case and commenced a thorough investigation into the incident. They are working to gather evidence, including statements from witnesses, while also looking into the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Frootola candy that caused the choking
