Guwahati, December 16: The government of US, Canada, and Singapore have asked its citizens to avoid travelling in Assam and the North East due to violent protests taking place against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). According to a Times of India report, this advisory comes after UK had issued a note of caution to citizens travelling to the region.

The government of Canada had asked its citizens to avoid non-essential travel. At present, there are violent clashes taking place between the demonstrators and security forces. Curfew has been imposed in several areas and internet services have been suspended as well in 10 districts of Assam. The respective governments have highlighted that the condition is not suitable for travel and therefore citizens should be extremely careful before planning their visit.  On Sunday evening, violent clashes erupted in Delhi, when a section of protesters in the march led by Jamia Millia Islamia students resorted to violence. The miscreants burnt down four buses and vandalised over a dozen vehicles. Fire brigade personnel who were rushed to the site were also allegedly pelted with stones by the infuriated mob.
