Lucknow, December 28: Uttar Pradesh Police has registered a case against 1000 unidentified students of Aligarh Muslim University for violence which broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 15. Hundreds of AMU students clashed with police on December 15 at a campus gate after which the varsity administration announced the closure of the institution till January 5. After the clashes police entered the Aligarh Muslim University campus and lathi-charged. At least 60 students were injured in the act. Some of them were also wounded with rubber bullet injuries. Internet connectivity was suspended from December 15 after violence broke out, which was restored later. 26 People, including eight students, were arrested in connect with the violence, later they were released on personal bonds.
Earlier, the UP Police had filed an FIR (First Information Report) against 1,200 students for carrying out candlelight march. The case has been registered under sections 188 and 341 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) for violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
