New Delhi, January 2: Under flak for the controversial law to naturalise non-Muslim refugees, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering to launch a missed call campaign to galvanise support for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The party, on Thursday, announced that BJP president Amit Shah would be releasing a toll-free number as part of the campaign on January 5. CAA an Internal Matter, Shared Our Perspective With All Geographical Regions: Foreign Ministry.
Those supporting the Centre on the citizenship row would be requested to register their missed call at the stated number. The CAA endorsement drive would be underway for 10 days, beginning from January 5 and ending on January 14. During the period, the party is hopeful of receiving support from millions on the law -- which has drawn widespread protests due to its alleged communal tenor.
BJP general secretary Anil Jain said Shah, apart from launching the toll-free number on Sunday, would also be visiting a household in the national capital to explain the benefits of CAA. Jain further added that the party office-bearers would be travelling across the lengths and breadths of the nation to clear the doubts related to the citizenship law.
According to Jain, the Congress and its allies have launched a massive "misinformation" campaign across the nation to stoke unrest and fear among the minorities over CAA. The law, he said, is not aimed at revoking anyone's citizenship but naturalising the persecuted refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who entered the nation on or before December 31, 2014.
