Mangalore, December 21: After violence broke out in Mangaluru or Mangalore during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, city police commissioner Dr Harsha issued a notice to former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, asking him not to visit the town. In the notice, Mangalore police commissioner said that there would be a law and order situation if Siddaramaiah arrived in the city. Mangaluru Violence: Mobile Internet Suspended in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada District.

"...His entry in the city may lead to law and order situation," the top cop stated in the notice. On Friday, a delegation of Congress leaders was detained at the Manguluru airport. They went to meet families of two persons who died of bullet injuries following violence during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests in Mangaluru. However, police detained the leaders at the airport and didn't allow them to enter Manguluru. Amid Anti-CAA Protests, BJP Deletes its Tweet on NRC.

"Our party leaders, who had gone to see the situation, have been detained in Manguluru airport. I condemn this act to silence us," Siddaramaiah had told news agency IANS, adding that Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is making Karnataka another Kashmir. "All rights enshrined in the Constitution are curtailed," he said. The port city is under curfew since Thursday till Sunday to maintain law and order and prevent untoward incidents.

Violence broke out during anti-CAA protests held despite the imposition of Section 144 in Mangalore. Police fired teargas shells and baton-charged the protesters. Subsequently, a mob allegedly attacked police personnel in which 15 police officers, inspectors and constables were injured. Two persons - Jaleel Kandak, 49, and Naushan Kudroli, 23, protesting against the CAA received bullet injuries in police firing, succumbed to injuries at a private hospital on Thursday night.
