CAA Protests: Delhi Police Flag March in Violence-Hit Mustafabad And Ghonda, Drones Keeping Close Eye Sensitive Areas

A day after the reports of violent protests against amended Citizenship Act in Northeast Delhi's Seelampur, Delhi Police held a flag march in Mustafabad and Ghonda areas. Earlier to maintain the law and order situation in the national capital, and to bring peace in the area, Section 144 has been imposed. Drones are also being used to monitor the affected areas.

New Delhi, December 18: A day after the reports of violent protests against amended Citizenship Act in in Northeast Delhi's Seelampur, Delhi Police held a flag march in Mustafabad and Ghonda areas. Earlier to maintain the law and order situation in the national capital, and to bring peace in the area, Section 144 has been imposed. Drones are also being used to monitor the affected areas.

Informing more about the Delhi Police's flag march in Mustafabad and Ghonda areas, Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said. "We want to give a message that strict action will be taken against those who try to disrupt law and order in the area. Sec 144 has been imposed. Situation is completely under control and peaceful." Police have stated that 21 people, including 12 policemen and six civilians, were injured in the clashes in Seelampur. Among other details, Delhi Police had stated that the violence continued for one-and-half hours, after which five people were detained. Adding more, the JCP denied the reports of using bullets or batons on CAA protesters, but had agreed on using tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Apart from this, police said that they are taking up the matter with Facebook and Twitter regarding the accounts spreading false and fake information on social media.

With the protests against CAA in the national capital garnering attention nationwide and people coming in support of it, Union Home Minister on Tuesday said he has directed the Delhi Police to maintain law and order and to ensure peace in the national capital. Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik briefed Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other senior officials of the ministry on the violence at Jamia Milia University and Seelampur during anti-CAA protests and the prevailing situation in the national capital.

It is to be known that the Seelampur violence broke out a day after reports of Delhi Police's brutality on Jamia students made the national headlines, Jamia Chief Proctor issued a statement claiming that the police was not permitted to enter inside the varsity. He further alleged that the law enforcement officials brutalised students and staff members inside the campus. University Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar registered an FIR the next day and demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter.
