New Delhi, September 25: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday extended support towards the protest being carried out by nearly 12 lakh Chartered Accountancy (CA) students across the nation. Expressing his solidarity with the agitating students on social media, the Gandhi scion said the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) - the nodal body in-charge of holding CA exams - should accept their demand of paper re-evaluation.

"Across India 12 Lakh CA students are fighting for their right to have their exam papers re-evaluated by ICAI. Given the widespread reports of errors in the evaluation of answer sheets, this demand is justified and should be supported by all political parties," he said. The National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students' wing of the Congress, is actively participating in the protests being staged by the CA students in the national capital.

"CAs play the role of auditors. Yet, the aspirants for such crucial task are seeking audit of their answer sheets. Can there be anything more ironical? I demand that ICAI and government pay heed to the demands of agitating CA students," NSUI president Neeraj Kundan said.

The CA students have alleged massive discrepancies in the paper-checking process, which ends up hindering the career prospects of scores of aspirants.

The body of protesting students has demanded the ICAI to provide them the option of re-evaluation, publish booklet of MCQs and Disclose correct Answers while providing certified copies and implement a centralised evaluation process to minimise errors.
