Lucknow, May 29: Six burqa-clad women were stopped from boarding the Lucknow Metro and asked to remove their veil by security officials. The incident took place at Maiwaiya station on Tuesday. The women had no objections about being frisked and checked by women security personnel. But there were no women security personnel at the station, reported news agency IANS.

The burqa-clad women, along with their male relative, were going to take a Metro train from Mavaiayya metro station to Alambagh metro station. According to a complaint lodged by Maaz Mohammed, male guards stopped women accompanying him and asked them to take off their burqa in front of them. Maaz also alleged that the guards misbehaved with women when they refused to be checked by them. Cow Vigilantes at It Again, Thrash 3 Youths Including 1 Woman Over Beef Rumours.

"As I walked towards the check-in spot, the male guards stopped the female passengers accompanying me and insisted my female relatives to take off their Burqa in front of them. All the female passengers accompanying me were ready to take off their Burqa in the female cabin meant for security checks but the male guards started misbehaving with us," Maaz wrote to the managing director of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC).

"After which I went to return all the six tickets that I had purchased. I want to know if the metal detectors installed at all the Metro stations are insufficient for security check? The incident took place on the evening of 27th May at 19:45 hours. Kindly take appropriate actions," he added. LMRC Public Relations Officer Pushpa Belani said the complaint had been received and the matter will be probed to verify the allegations.
