New Delhi, July 6: Locals in the haunted Burari neighbourhood, where a family of 11 committed mass suicide on Sunday, will attempt to convince the deceased's kin to convert the house into a temple.

The neighbours claim the house has terrified the entire locality, with many among the tenants considering to leave. The only way to keep the "supernatural powers" at bay, locals claim, is to converted the deceased's two-storey home into a temple.

According to Ramesh Tyagi, a resident of Sant Nagar in Burari - where the house is located - said neither the relatives of the late Bhatia family will occupy the house nor will it find any buyers.

Tyagi's assertion was validated by NK Agrawal, a property dealer based in Burari. He claimed the house will need at least "4-5 years" to get rid of the haunted tag and find bidders for sale.

Relatives undecided

Ketan Nagpal, nephew of deceased Lalit Bhatia, has categorically denied the occult angle being linked to the deaths. Nagpal claims the relatives are still undecided on whether to sell the house, offer it for rent or convert it into a temple.

Nagpal, along with other relatives of the deceased, are based in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh and Panipat. While the deceased have been cremated in Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat, a memorial service will be performed at the native village.

The relatives will convene at the Burari house and perform a havan after police grants the handover. The fate of the house is expected to be decided after the havan is performed.

Tenants in Fear

A large number of residents living on rent are considering to leave the locality after the occult angle was linked to the suicide. At least three students who were living on rent have left.

Navneet Batra claims his 21-year-old daughter fears to close lights even at bedtime. She is afraid to even lock the washroom door from inside. His wife said the "faces of the dead" continue to appear when they close their eyes.

Tejinder Singh, who owns a shop in the locality, said the business has been adversely impacted due to the heavy police deployment and media rush.
