Burari Deaths Mystery: Final Post-Mortem Reports to be Out Today, Delhi Police to Conduct a Psychological Autopsy

New Delhi, July 7: After eleven members of a family, including seven women and two children, were found dead in Burari earlier this week, the Delhi Police is probing all the possibilities of the collective death. According to reports, the initial autopsy report had informed that all 11 members died of hanging and there were no signs of a struggle. Police are awaiting the final postmortem and forensic reports. As many as 130 people have been interrogated till now regarding the Burari deaths in connection with the collective death of 11 members of a family.
On Friday, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police interrogated a 'tantrik' (occultist), named Geeta Maa, in connection with the deaths of 11 members of a family in the city's Burari area on Sunday. "Geeta Maa is the daughter of the contractor who had built the home of Lalit, the 45-year-old man believed to have planned the mass suicide," a police source was quoted by ANI.
Hours after taking her into custody on Friday, the Delhi Police said there is no substantial evidence to suggest tantrik Geeta Maa is linked to the mass suicide. "We have interrogated Geeta Maa in connection with the matter where 11 bodies were found in house in Burari. There is nothing which suggests that she is connected with this case," news agency ANI Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police as saying.
Reports inform that police also questioned the family's neighbours, relatives, and fiance of Priyanka - one of the 11 members of the family. According to reports by PTI, those who were found hanging had their mouth taped and their faces covered with cloth pieces cut from a single bed sheet. Only Narayan's face was not covered. The bodies will be handed over to the family for last rites later in the day.
The deceased were identified as Narayan, who was found dead on the floor, her daughter Pratibha (57), her two sons Bhavnesh (50) and Lalit Bhatia (45). Bhavnesh's wife Savita (48) and their three children - Meenu (23), Nidhi (25) and Dhruv (15) were among the deceased.
Lalit Bhatia's wife Tina (42) and their 15-year-old son Shivam were also among those found dead along with Pratibha's daughter Priyanka (33), who was engaged last month and supposed to get married this year end. Locals had said Meenu was preparing for entrance exams and Nidhi was pursuing her Masters.
