Bullet Train Name Contest: Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Train Gets 22,000 Entries, Vayu Putra, Mahatma, Bullet Bharat, Vidyut Among Top Suggestions
Udantashtari, Vayu Putra, Mahatma, Bullet Bharat, Vidyut, Pawan Putra, Chetak, Pulwama Shaheed Express are among the top suggesions that have been received by NHSRCL for the high-speed bullet train.
New Delhi, June 3: The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has received a whopping 22,000 entries as suggestions to name India’s first bullet train that will ply between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Udantashtari, Vayu Putra, Mahatma, Bullet Bharat, Vidyut, Pawan Putra, Chetak are among the names received by NHSRCL for the high-speed bullet train. According to reports, another name that has caught attention is ‘Pulwama Shaheed Express’ which would commemorate the 40 paramilitary troopers martyred in the terror attack on February 14 this year. The one who wins in the name suggestion category will be awarded Rs 50,000 cash prize along with a certificate while the best mascot suggestion would be given an award of Rs 1 lakh. According to details on the website, five consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 in each category will be given to those whose entries will be deemed as good as the winning entry. In February this year, the NHSRCL, which is executing the project, had invited people of the nation to suggest names for the train through the citizen engagement platform – mygov.in. The NHSRCL had said that the name and Mascot should represent the true nature of high-speed rail and all the socio-economic benefits that will come with the introduction of this technology in India. The final name for the bullet train is expected to be finalised by the first week of July. March 25 was the last day for the submissions of the suggestions for the name of the bullet train.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail will cover distance of 508 Km in approximately three hours and will ply covering 12 stations in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The NHSRCL is mandated to build India’s first high speed rail (commonly known as Bullet Train) between Mumbai & Ahmedabad.
Once the high-speed rail corridor is constructed, India will join the elite club of 15 nations having this sophisticated technology within our reach. This project will bring a world-class cutting-edge technology to the service of this nation along with the transfer of technology from Japan.
