Bulandshahr Violence Effect: Meerut Police to Book Entire Family if Beef Found At Home
The Meerut police believe that this initiative will help them as mobs will not be triggered to take the law into their hands.
Meerut, December 16: In a bid to control illegal slaughtering of cows, the Meerut police has gone an extra mile and said it will book the entire family if beef is found in any home. The order comes days after violence erupted in which an inspector and a youth were killed by an unruly mob in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. The Meerut police is of the opinion that this initiative will help them as mobs will not be triggered to take the law into their hands. According to a report by Hindustan Times, SP (rural) Rajesh Kumar said cow slaughtering is a sensitive issue and people should be aware of it. The report informs that officials have also asked the police to register case against the entire family if beef is found in the house of any individual. “Cow slaughtering is a sensitive issue. We want people to inform the police if they come across such cases,” Kumar said. He added saying if beef is found in a house it means the family members are hiding a crime and helping those who are involved in it. Senior criminal lawyer Om Prakash Sharma also stated that cow slaughtering is illegal in the state, therefore keeping its meat at home is also an offence. He added saying that family members must not hide it and if they do so police can initiate action against each member of the family.
The report informs that the police have asked people with arms licenses to act like a cow vigilant and help them keep a check on such incidents. As a preventive measure, police officials belonging to different police stations held meetings in several villages to make people aware and administered pledge for social boycott of cow slaughterers to villagers.
