Lucknow, December 4: A day after the Bulandshahr violence, in which one Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and a local – Sumit – lost their lives, police have arrested two people and detained four others in connection with the case on Tuesday. Singh lost his life after a mob attacked him, protesting against alleged cattle slaughter in the Siyana village of Bulandshahr. During the protest, the mob set ablaze a police post and torched the police vehicle.

Confirming the post-mortem report of SHO Singh, UP Additional Director General (Law & Order) Anand Kumar said that ‘post-mortem report has confirmed gunshot injury to Subodh Kumar Singh in addition to injuries caused by hard and blunt object. The entry of the bullet is in the left eyebrow’. Bulandshahr Mob Violence: Slain Cop Subodh Kumar Singh Supervised Probe in Akhlaq Lynching Case

The senior IPS officer also confirmed that another policeman accompanying Singh – Sub Inspector Suresh Kumar – sustained critical injuries and referred to Meerut Hospital. A bystander – identified by Sumit – died of gunshot injury as the two sides exchanged fire.

Expressing his anger over the killing of his father, Singh’s son Abhishek said, “My father wanted me to be a good citizen who doesn't incite violence in society in the name of religion. Today my father lost his life in this Hindu-Muslim dispute, tomorrow whose father will lose his life?”

Describing the horrific situation, Suresh Kumar had claimed that around 300-500 people had attacked the entire police force, when their (police) vehicle reached a farmland to stop the mob.

Expressing his condolences, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had declared a compensation of Rs 40 lakh for Subodh Kumar Singh’s wife, Rs 10 lakh for parents and a government job for kin. Along with this, Adityanath assured the family of speedy justice and ordered the police to investigate the matter thoroughly. Bulandshahr Mob Violence: UP CM Yogi Adityanath Announces Rs 50 Lakh Compensation For Family of Slain Inspector Subodh Kumar

With the tense situation still prevailing in the vicinity, new revelations say that Singh was also the investigating officer for Akhlaq lynching case in Dadri from September 28, 2015, till November 2015, though a different investigating officer filed the charge sheet in March 2016, informed ADG Law and Order Anand Kumar.

Demanding a fair investigation, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan said, “If it is indeed cattle carcass then Police should also probe as to who brought the carcass there, as there is no minority population in that particular area.”
