Lucknow, August 26: Rajni Singh, the wife of late UP police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, has expressed fear for her life after the accused were granted bail by a local court. Speaking to reporters, Rajni said the safety of her children has also been jeopardised with the bail of those charged of murdering her husband.
Even when they were in jail, Rajni alleged, she continued to receive life threats over phone, with callers warning her to withdraw the case or face consequences. "Now that they are out, they may kill me or my children," she said. Bulandshahr Violence: Six Accused, Out on Bail, Welcomed With Garlands and Chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’; Watch Video
Expressing her dissent against the court's decision to grant the accused bail, Rajni said she failed to find rationale in the bench's decision. "This judgement has saddened me. On what basis this judgement has been given," she said.
"I demand from CM that their bail should be cancelled," Rajni added, demanding Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene in the case.
Notably, the six accused - Shikhar Agarwal, Jit Fauji, Hemu, Saurav, Rohit and Upendra Raghav - were garlanded and received with chants of "Bharat Mata ki Jai", "Jai Shri Ram" and "Vande Mataram" after they were released on bail on Saturday.
After the Opposition targeted the BJP-led government for allegedly weakening the prosecution's case to facilitate the release of accused, Deputy CM Keshav prasad Maurya struck back, charging the rival parties of reaping political dividends from a tragic case.
"If supporters of people who have been released from jail welcome them, the government and BJP have nothing to do with it. The Opposition should not make a mountain out of a molehill," Maurya said.
Subodh Kumar was killed during a protest called by locals in Bulandshahr's Mahwah village on December 3 last year after finding bovine carcasses. The inspector, who had arrived at the spot to control the situation, was attacked by axe-wielding men who chopped of his fingers and struck his dead. The deceased police officer's body was found in jeep, left abandoned in middle of a field.
