New Delhi, February 1: The interim budget 2019 will be unveiled today in Parliament. Union minister Piyush Goyal, who has been given charge of the finance portfolio in the absence of Arun Jaitley who is in the US for medical treatment, will deliver the interim budget speech. This will be the last budget of the current BJP-led NDA government before the Lok Sabha elections. While the government maintained that the budget will be called 'Interim Budget 2019-20', this could be a full-fledged budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government ahead of the Lok Sabha elections that may include tax reliefs for the middle class and the corporates, a relief package for farmers and incentives for the stressed small scale industry sector. Jaitley had also said that the interim Budget may go "beyond the traditional " vote-on-account as tackling agricultural challenges "can't afford to wait". Rail Budget 2019: How Platform Ticket Price Changed From 2014 to 2018.

The income tax exemption limit for individuals could be raised to Rs 5 lakh from the present Rs 2.5 lakh. "For corporates, we have always said that exemptions and subsidies in tax rates should be removed. A flat levy rate of 20 per cent will increase tax compliance," Anil Khaitan, Former President of PHD Chambers, said. For the stressed micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, hit badly by the demonetisation decision of 2016 and GST implementation following that, the interim budget could contain incentives and easier flow of credit.

Shivkumar Kakkaji, National President of Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh, said the budget must announce waiver of loans to farmers. "Labourers and farmers do not have the capacity to work after 60 years of age. Something should be done about income for people with no means of livelihood. If the Centre does not fulfil our aspirations, the country will witness the same situation like in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (ousting of BJP)," he said.
