New Delhi, July 5: Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2019 in the Parliament, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was seen holding the budget documents in four fold red cloth instead of a briefcase. Chief Economic Advisor Krishnamurthy Subramanian said, the tying of the documents in the cloth instead of a briefcase symbolizes the departure from slavery of Western thought.

"It is in Indian tradition. It symbolizes our departure from slavery of Western thought. It is not a budget but a 'bahi khata'(ledger)", Subramanian said. Catch Live Updates of Union Budget 2019 Here

Sitharaman will present the General Budget 2019-20 in the Parliament on Friday at 11 AM. This will be the first Budget of the Narendra Modi Government in the second tenure and Sitharaman's maiden Budget after becoming the Finance Minister.  The Finance Minister along with Minister of State Anurag Thakur and officials of the ministry gave final touches to the General Budget last evening.

In her Budget speech today, Sitharaman, India's first full-time woman finance minister, is widely expected to boost spending and provide tax relief in the much-anticipated Union Budget.
