Amritsar, August 14: India's Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistani Rangers did not exchange sweets at Attari-Wagah border on Pakistan's Independence Day on Wednesday. Both the nations are at loggerheads after the Narendra Modi government scrapped the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by diluting Article 370. Even last week, sweets were not exchanged between the border forces of both the nations on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha. Forces of both India and Pakistan traditionally exchange greetings and sweetmeats on their national and religious festivals. In retaliation to India's move to scrap special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan suspended the Lahore-Delhi Samjhauta Express train and Friendship Bus service. Islamabad also "downgraded" bilateral ties with New Delhi. The decision was taken by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan during a National Security Committee meeting. The Indian government on August 5 abrogated the provisions of Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The state was also divided into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. According to the Central government, the union territory status of Jammu and Kashmir will be temporary.
