BSF Jawan From Punjab Arrested for Sending Secret Information to Pakistan Intelligence
Police have arrested a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan on Sunday from Punjab's Firozpur on the charges of spying and sending India's confidential information to Pakistan Intelligence.
Firozpur, November 4: Police have arrested a Border Security Force (BSF) Jawan on Sunday from Punjab's Firozpur on the charges of spying and sending India's confidential information to Pakistan Intelligence Operative Mirza Faisal, reported DNA. Police have recovered two cell phones and seven sim cards from his possession. The accused has been charged under the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and National Security Act 1980.
He was apprehended on the basis of a written complaint by BSF 29 battalion's Deputy Commander. The accused was identified as Sheikh Riazuddin alias Riyaz, a resident of Rana Pura in Maharashtra's Latur district. He is working as an operator in the BSF as per the complaint by the Deputy Commander. Police have started their investigations and taken him into custody after getting remand from the court. Riyaz used social media platforms like the Facebook messenger from his cell phone to send secret information to Pakistani agent Mirza Faisal. The information ranged from details of the fencing of wires in the border, footages of the streets, contact information of the officers, etc.
Earlier in September, Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had arrested a BSF jawan from Noida on the charges of sharing confidential information with Pakistan's ISI agent. The accused Achutanand Misra was honey trapped into sharing information about unit operational details by a woman who claimed to be a defence reporter. Misra used to send secret information through Whatsapp to ISI agents, whose name he saved as 'Pakistani dost' in his contact list. He was booked and taken into custody under the Secrets Act, 1923.
