Kolkata, July 11: A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was critically injured after being attacked by a group of smugglers from Bangladesh on Wednesday night. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place on the intervening night of July 10 and 11 when a group of 25 smugglers from Bangladesh made a forcible attempt to smuggle about 10-15 cattle into Bangladesh through Border Out Post-Angrail near Bangaon in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal. After the BSF troops deployed in the area got inputs about the presence of smugglers, they intercepted and challenged them. According to a tweet by ANI, the BSF said that the smugglers directed high beam light on BSF Constable Anisur Rehman and lobbed one country made bomb which blasted near him. While the Constable fired one round of non-lethal PAG gun towards smugglers, they lobbed another country made bomb towards him which blasted on his right hand.
Consequently, due to blast right hand of the Jawan sustained grievous injury and one bicycle which was kept nearby was also damaged badly due to powerful blast. Many pellets of bomb also pierced in his body which have affected his lungs, liver and stomach.
Soon after the incident, constable Rehman was taken to a Government Hospital in Bangaon and was later rushed to Medical Hospital in Kolkata. According to a tweet by ANI, Rehman's right hand was amputated. However, as per intelligence report, one Bangladeshi smuggler had sustained injury but managed to flee away to Bangladesh.
