BS Yediyurappa-Led BJP Govt to be Backed by JD(S)? 'MLAs Want Kumaraswamy to Extend Support From Outside'

Some legislators of JDS told former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy to support the BJP, whose CM BS Yediyurappa took the oath Friday. Reportedly, two divisions have been formed within the Janata Dal (Secular) as one wants to support the BJP while another wants to sit in the opposition.

Bengaluru, July 27: In a major development, some legislators of JDS told former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa took the oath Friday, Hindustan Times reported. Reportedly, two divisions have been formed within the Janata Dal (Secular) as one wants to support the BJP while another wants to sit in the opposition. The meeting was held at the Taj West End Hotel in Bengaluru. “MLAs in Legislature Party meet said Congress last time accused us of being B team of BJP,” Times Now quoted former Minister GT Devegowda as saying. Devegowda said that legislators have only aired their opinions and nothing have been discussed with the BJP. This development comes after BS Yediyurappa was sworn-in as CM for the fourth times. However, he will prove the majority in the Assembly on July 29.

Karnataka got the new CM after the 14-month-old Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) coalition lost trust vote in the assembly on Tuesday. In the floor trust, 99 MLAs voted in favour of Congress-JDS, while 106 voted against it. The next election in the state will take place in 2023.
