New Delhi, December 30: The construction of tunnels near Pakistan and China border has gained momentum. A global tender has been issued for the construction of a state of the art tunnel under the Brahmaputra in Assam. The tender was issued by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for the construction of the tunnel under the Brahmaputra River. A report regarding the construction of the underwater tunnel was presented to the speaker of the Lok Sabha on December 20. The timeline to finish the work on this tunnel will be 2028. Arunachal Pradesh: Defence Minister Inaugurates Sisseri Bridge Built by BRO.

According to a report published in The Economic Times, the work to build three tunnels near the border with China, six tunnels near the Pakistan border has picked up the pace. The BRO has also begun the excavation of a tunnel under the Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh, while the work on another tunnel in Nechiphu area of the state is will also begin. The distance to Twang will be decreased.

In the western sector, the new tunnels will be constructed at Sadhna Pass and Pharkian Galli. Both these tunnels will be in Kupwara sector. Apart from these two, the four other tunnels along the western border will be in Akhnoor-Poonch road, reported ET. India is planning to have a total of 19 along the border with Pakistan and China. These tunnels will also include the ones which are already constructed. Out of these, 15 will be in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
