Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missiles Successfully Launched from Land and Air Platforms, Says Govt

New Delhi, December 17: The Indian government on Tuesday informed that they have successfully carried out the launch of two Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missiles from land and air platforms in Odisha. It stated that the first missile was launched from a Land Based Mobile Launcher, while for the second one, they used the SU-30MKI platform against a sea target. Further more, it stated that most of the components were indigenous built which includes missile air frame, fuel management system and DRDO designed seeker.

Informing about the latest development on the launch of two Brahmos Missiles, the Union government said, as quoted by ANI, "2 Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missiles were successfully launched today from land&air platforms. The 1st missile launch was from a Land Based Mobile Launcher in Odisha, where most of the components were indigenous including Missile Air frame, Fuel Mgmt System & DRDO designed Seeker." Adding more, it said, "The second launch of the missile was carried out by Indian Air force (IAF) from SU-30MKI platform against a sea target. The test conducted in user configuration, revalidated the ship attack capability of the advanced air-launched cruise missile." Earlier on December 10, Indian Army informed that it test-fired the United States origin precision-guided Excalibur ammunition from M-777 artillery howitzers in Pokhran firing range on Monday. With this new advanced weapon in the Indian side, the Army stated that the missile could penetrate 8-10 inches thick walls and reduces chances of collateral damage when used against the enemy.
