Chennai, March 28: A part of a missile said to be that of BrahMos, was washed ashore in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The marine police of the Coastal Security Group (CSG) retrieved the part of BrahMos missile that was washed ashore on Panaikulam seashore in Ramanathapuram district. The 'Q' Branch Police rushed to the spot on being informed by locals and found the logo of BrahMos on the 15-feet part that weighed 800 kg. BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile Test Fired From Odisha’s Chandipur.

The police suspect that the retrieved may have fallen into the Bay of Bengal after it was test fired. Its logo carried the date of October 24, 2016, which implies the manufacture date of the missile.

According to reports, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been informed by the police. A report in The Hindu says that ISRO is likely to send a team to examine the engine and decide on further action.

BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organisation and NPOM of Russia.
