Bombay High Court Judge VK Tahilramani Appointed As the Chief Justice of Madras HC
The apex court CJI and other two judges before taking the decision also considered the fact that at present there is only one chief justice from Bombay High Court and therefore, it is possible to appoint Tahilramani as the CJ of Madras HC.
Mumbai, July 20: The apex court of India has appointed Bombay High Court (HC) Judge VK Tahilramani as the chief justice of Madras High Court. As per the order dated of July 16, 2018, issued by the chief justice of India Deepak Mishra and judges Ranjan Gogoi and Madan Lokur appointed Tahilramani on the post as he was one of the senior-most judges in Bombay High Court and was serving from the last 26 years.
Furthermore, the order, a copy of which is with Latestly, reads that Indira Banerjee, CJ of Madras HC has been promoted and appointed as the Judge of Supreme Court. So Judge Tahilramani will be appointed in her place.
Before taking the decision, the apex court CJI and other two judges also considered the fact that, at present, there is only one chief justice from Bombay High Court and therefore, it is possible to appoint Tahilramani as the CJ of Madras HC.
