Mumbai, September 25: Boman Rashid Kohinoor, senior partner at the iconic Irani cafe Britannia & Co, died on Wednesday. He was 97. Boman Kohinoor had been in a private hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for over two weeks. He breathed his last at 4:45 pm. Britannia & Co, located at Ballard Estate in Mumbai's posh Fort area, was founded by Boman Kohinoor's father Rashid in 1923.
Boman Kohinoor was 20 years old when he took over the reins of the eatery. He used to call himself the biggest fan of the British Royal Family. In a video uploaded by Condé Nast Traveller India, Kohinoor talked about how he had received a signed letter from Queen Elizabeth II, whom he invited to his iconic restaurant.
Three years ago, when Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge Catherine Middleton visited India, Boman Kohinoor's dream of meeting the Royal couple came true. Prince William and Catherine Middleton made an out-of-schedule appointment for him and met him at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel.
