Mumbai, August 29: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to introduce on-street paid parking. The project designed by Mumbai Parking Authority (MPA) will be implemented from August 29, 2019. The plan will include two stretches of arterial roads and three areas on a pilot basis. Once implemented, people will have the option to park their vehicles in the public parking lots or at pay-and-park slots on some roads, mid-day reported. BMC Warns Mumbai Private Bus Owners: 'Use BEST Parking Depots or Pay Rs 10,000 Fine From September 1'.

The on-street parking will be implemented on Maharshi Karve road, in parts of A, C and D wards, and SV Road in the K West ward. Barring some paid parking slot, most of the 3.5 km-long stretch from MK road from Churchgate railway station to the Opera House junction will be no parking zone, mid-day reported. 5.7 km-long stretch of SV Road in the K-ward has been a no parking zone but on-street will be available on 10 internal roads.

On-street parking will also be introduced in three areas on a pilot basis. Paid parking will be available in the parts of Gokhale Road and Senapati Bapat Marg. In the western suburbs, the parking is planned around New Link road in the K West ward. While, in the eastern suburbs, some parking slots will be available in the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road and 13 internal roads.

Vijay Singhal, the BMC additional municipal commissioner, said that final steps are being taken before the announcement of the on-street parking plan. "Five stretches have been refined to be turned into no-free-parking zones for free movement of traffic," he told mid-day. He said that this move is done in the interest of the public and plans to encourage the use of public parking lots (PPL).
