Mumbai, August 22: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been slammed for its plan to hire social media experts for Rs 6 crore. The Opposition members in BMC's standing Committee have further asked why a private individual who works in the Chief Minister's office on a fellowship programme, was hired, according to a Times of India report. BMC Officials to Face 50% Pay Cut If Projects Are Delayed in Mumbai.
The Opposition members questioned the civic body's decision to hire private individuals through a state government agency to handle its Twitter account. The ruling party in BMC, Shiv Sena and BJP cleared the proposal with full majority. Whereas, Congress corporator Ravi Raja pointed out that BMC needs to strengthen its IT Department so that it can handle the work instead of hiring people from outside.
In another recent news concerning the Department, BMC officials are all set to lose 50 percent of their salaries if the work they are overseeing doesn't meet their deadlines. A circular has been issued in this regard warning of a 50 percent salary cut. According to reports, the circular further stated that contractors will also lose 20 percent of the amount due to them if works get delayed.
According to the new circular, engineers and contractors will now become more accountable for their work. Most of the work allegedly gets delayed due to delay in clearances, administrative hurdles and interdepartmental lag.
