Mumbai, May 10: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Friday appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. Mehta's appointment was cleared by the Election Commission as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in place due to ongoing Lok Sabha elections in the country. BMC Budget 2019-20 Highlights: Rs 30,692.59 Crore Budget Presented by Commissioner Ajoy Mehta.

Mehta is a 1984-batch IAS officer and holds the distinction of being the longest-serving BMC commissioner. He will retire in September this year. Mehta would have missed out on the CS post, if Madan would have not opted for VRS, as he was to retire in October this year. The name of the next municipal commissioner will be declared soon.
